Disc Golf | Ace Runs

My Ace Runs that completed their goal will be listed here.

Ace 1

My first Ace occurred on December 12, 2018, during a round of putt and approach practice round on the Little Black Bear course @ Farragut State Park.

On hole 16, I took a very aggressive forehand line around the trees in front of the pad. A very short time later, it’s only a 74-foot hole, the sweet clang of chains reached my ears.

The shortest, but arguably the hardest hole at Little Black Bear.
Hole 16 teed pad. I took the left to right route around all of those pesky trees.
My Innova Champion Dark resting comfortably in the basket.

Ace 2

My second Ace occurred on February 25, 2019, at Corbin park on hole 5. It was a very cold and windy day. During a pause with the wind blowing from the basket to the tee pad, I decided to take a more direct route to the basket and it paid off.

Hole 5 is not that far, but the basket is about 15 feet or so higher than the pad, which adds a little more distance.
The basket is on the left side of the big branch that likes to hit discs from time to time.
My Innova Champion Leopard3 sitting dry, but a little cold, in the basket.

Ace 3

My third Ace occurred on March 8, 2019, during a scoring round @ Corbin park. I was playing my third round in a day and was a little tired. A little blister on my foot was a constant irritation, except when throwing, which was helpful.

On hole 7, I would normally throw a stable mid-range. but have the tendency to turn it a bit too much in the wind as mid-ranges tend to do. I threw my Leopard with a “perfect” amount speed and accuracy. It sailed on a straight line, albeit on the right side of the basket. After a moment or two or three, the sweet clanging of chains, after the disc faded gently to the left into the basket.

One of the longer holes at Corbin, but also one of the most open.
A view of the pad, fairway, and basket. The only real obstacle is the bush on the right side of the fairway.
My Innova Star Leopard, with its little ribbon waiting to be picked up.

Ace 4

My fourth Ace occurred on December 6, 2019, during a scoring round @ Corbin park. It was my second round of the day. Hole 14 is not far but requires an accurate throw as do most holes at Corbin.

I tried to keep the disc on a compact line as the tee pad is a little left for my liking. When I released it, I thought to myself… “that’s the straightest line to the basket I have thrown on his hole. But it’s a little low, but should be a birdie putt.”. But then to my surprise, the disc hit the ground skipped up and fell into the basket for my first ‘skip ace’.

Tee sign for hole 14 at Corbin.
As you can see, there are a lot of trees to hit your disc. If the tee pad was about two feet over to the right, that would help to line up drives a little better.
My fourth Ace using my newly acquired Westside Shield.

Ace 5

My fifth Ace occurred on January 3, 2020, on hole 9 at Corbin Park. It was my first scoring round of the day. Hole 9 isn’t that far at 185 feet and has a decent fairway. The hardest part of this hole is mental with the Spokane River to the left waiting to take your disc westward with a bad throw.

I threw the disc on a clean line going down the middle of the fairway. It hit the chains with solid contact and fell into the basket, my most direct Ace yet.

As you can see, it’s only 185 feet with a straight fairway, though there are some trees to miss on either side later down the fairway.
Hole 9 used to worry me because it was so close to the water. I have had multiple discs go into the water at this hole with only one being lost for good.
Well, the trick to not losing a disc in the water is to throw it straight to the basket for my fifth ace. To date, I have collected four of my Aces at Corbin and one at Little Black Bear.

Ace 6

My sixth Ace occurred on January 27, 2020, on hole 16 at Corbin Park. It was my third round of the day, but the only one I scored. The first two were focusing mainly on multiple practice drives. Hole 16 [A position] isn’t that far at 168 feet but has a lot of trees and two main but fairly tight fairways.

I threw the disc down the right fairway on a high spike hyzer with my Kastaplast Berg. It’s my normal line and one that plays to the strengths of the Berg. It hit mainly the cage and just a tiny bit of chains, so it didn’t have the satisfying ringing of the chains.

Tee sign showing the basket in the A position.
Hole 16 is not that far, but very tricky with all these trees. My normal route is the right gap following the dirt in front of the tee pad.

I have been doing pretty well with the Berg I recently purchased as it has a strong fade from right to left, especially if you put it on a nice hyzer angle.
I saw the disc making my intended line and fading towards the basket. I heard a clunk of sorts with a hint of chains. The card leaving hole 4 which is to the right of this basket, exclaim some “nice throw” and such. I sidestepped to see the basket holding this disc!

With the raising of my arms, I grabbed my bag and went to collect my prize, my 6th Ace. As I was collecting the disc, the card on hole 17, which is just across the road behind the basket, gave me more congratulations. This was actually the first Ace witnessed by another person.

I had parked this disc under the basket two days ago during doubles league. I guess that was a preview of future better throws?

Ace 7

My seventh Ace occurred on February 3, 2020, on hole 17 on the Little Black Bear course at Farragut. It was during my warm-up, but the first drive I threw. I threw the disc down the right side of the fairway on a little hyzer with my Kastaplast Berg.

Here is the second to last hole, which is about average length on this course.
As you can see there are two routes, but the right side is more open. This is great for us RightHandBackHand players.
My second Ace at Little Black Bear and the first one on this hole, assuming my second practice shot on hole 13 doesn’t count.

Ace 8

My eigth Ace occured on July 3, 2020 on hole 10 at Corbin Park. I was having a fun day of throwing slower speed discs and going for putts. I had been taking improving my form a bit too seriously and needed some time to remember the fun in throwing plastic at the basket.

Probably the easiest hole to birdie, even though I have birdied five holes before this one at Corbin.
As you can see there are no obstacles to challenge your throw.
After a nice hyzer driven path my Buzzz settled nicely in the left side of the basket after hitting the lower chains.

Ace 9

My ninth Ace occurred on July 18, 2020, while warming up for the Project NorthStar tournament at Farragut State Park. I threw my Berg on a forehand line.

A very short hole as most of them are on the Little Black Bear course.
The fairway is very open for most of it, but closes up a bit towards the green.
The disc barely hit any chains, if any… as it landed in the left side of the basket and spun around a little.

Ace 10

My tenth Ace occured on August 3, 2020 on hole 16 on the AWOL course at Farragut. It was during my second round which was basically a practice round. My Emac Truth flew a typical, but more accurate hyzer line.

Hole 16 is the shortest and easiest hole to Ace on AWOL.
There are enough trees to make it a fairly challenging Ace. There is one hidden tree that can be hit if you throw the right line a little too light.
The disc hit the lower right side chains and was caught easily by the cage. This is my first birdie on a course other than Corbin and Little Black Bear. Fittingly, it’s on the shortest hole on AWOL.

Ace 11

My eleventh Ace occurred on August 5, 2020 on hole 16 on the AWOL course at Farragut. It was thrown with the same disc on the second round of the day, just two days after my previous Ace. I also ended up carding my first sub-par round on AWOL during this round.

Hole 16 is the shortest and easiest hole to Ace on AWOL.
There are enough trees to make it a fairly challenging Ace. There is one hidden tree that can be hit if you throw the right line a little too light.
Very similar to the previous Ace, but just a tad closer to the front of the basket. It was great to have two Aces, especially on the same hole, during the same week.

Ace 12

My twelfth Ace occurred on September 19, 2020, on hole 17 on the Little Black Bear course at Farragut. I was warming up for the Up the Gut tournament and threw my Berg. This is the same hole as my seventh Ace.

It’s an “easy” Ace, but I will still count it.
As you can see there is enough room to throw your disc down the right side of the fairway.
The Berg resting comfortably in the cage.

Ace 13

My thirteenth Ace occurred on February 1, 2021, on hole 1 on the Little Black Bear course at Farragut. It was the first throw of the day as I started to warm up. This is the first time throwing an Ace on this hole.

At 117 feet and with an open fairway, it’s an Ace friendly hole.
This is the first Ace on this hole and with my fairly new XT Bullfrog.

Ace 14

My fourteenth Ace occurred on March 10, 2021, on hole 4 in the B position at the Cherry Hill course. It was the first throw of my first practice round for the day. This is the first time throwing an Ace at this course.

Hole 4B is a downhill straight shot with a big enough fairway.
The hole isn’t long at all, but being downhill makes it a bit tricky.
This disc had good enough power and landed short as I intended, but it hit a root or bump and skipped up in the air landing softly into the cage of the basket for my first Ace at Cherry Hill.

Ace 15

My 15th Ace occured on Hole 4 on the Little Black Bear course on July 17, 2021. I was warming up for the High Country Open 2021 tournament at Farragut State Park.

I have been trying to Ace this hole for a while. I took a very easy swing and kept it fairly flat.
Like all of the holes on this course, it isn’t that long at 126 feet. The tricky part is keeping at the right height and get it around the trees.
My K1 Soft Berg sitting comfortably in the basket.

Practice Ace 01

My first “practice Ace” occurred on 01-22-2021 on hole 16 in the right position at Corbin Park. I threw my normal turnover line and decided to try a new hyzer line. With my newly acquired Zone, I went to the right of the normal fairway.

The dirt path leads down the normal line I take.
The distance isn’t the challenge, the trees are the challenge.
My new Zone sitting comfortably in the basket. I remember walking to hole 17 and a fellow player asked if I just Aced hole 16… I told him it was my second drive, so I have to consider it a practice Ace, he disagreed.

Practice Ace 02

My second practice Ace occurred on 05-01-2021 at hole 2 on the NorthStar course while warming up for the Apex PDGA League. I had already thrown my standard shot but decided to try my new Verdict. The flight was a bit short so it had to skip off the ground and drop into the basket.

The fairway is fairly straightforward, but the tee pad is in a weird position.
I see a trend with my Aces… they are mostly shorter-length holes.
My Verdict resting in the basket after skipping off the ground.

Practice Ace 03

My third practice Ace occurred on 06-26-2021 at hole 2 on the Little Black Bear course while warming up for my second round at the Apex Ace Race. The following are not pictures of the hole when I made the Ace.

Hole 2 is a tricky fairway and I threw the disc over the right side of the first tree in the middle of the fairway.
At 99 feet, it’s a very short hole.

Practice Ace 04

My fourth practice Ace occurred at hole 3 on the Little Black Bear right before my 15th Ace. It was my second shot after I threw my Bullfrog.

The fairway is very open, but this was my first forehand Ace of any type.
At 111 feet, the hole is very short, but for my current forehand skill, it feels a lot farther!
My K1 Soft berg resting comfortably in the basket after hitting the center chains!

Practice Ace 05

My fifth practice Ace occurred on September 6, 2021. I was warming up before playing a practice round on Cutthroat. As you can see, the fairway is wide open, except for that pesky little tree.
At 110 feet, it definitely falls in the “baby Ace” section of collecting Aces.
My first shot was short and low, hitting the pole. My second shot matched my thought process… just skip it in!
