Today we had a big windstorm that lasted most of the night through the afternoon. I went to a local park/sports complex to practice a few things. First, I wanted to try tweaking my form. Second, I wanted to test out my new shoes. Third, I wanted to try out my new discs… even though it was super windy!

After reviewing my form on two sets of throws I made a tiny step forward.to better form. Overall, I feel like I was throwing the discs well. I focused on delaying when I start my reach back or backswing. For most of the throws, it seems like I was able to do this to some degree. My footwork is still “wonky” compared to where it should be.

My new shoes are very comfortable in the toe area, which is always an issue for me. Since they are wide width, they don’t require any breaking in. There is an air cushion in the heel, which feels a bit weird right now, but after I focused on throwing discs, I didn’t notice it. The only aspect that would make the shoes better if they were black… but function is more important than form when it comes to disc golf shoes.

I threw all of my discs, sometimes straight into the wind, a couple of times with a direct tailwind, and once with a left to the right headwind. The FD flew as expected, turning in a headwind, and flying a little overstable in a tailwind. The Vulture didn’t flip over in a direct headwind, which was a little surprising. The Thrasher flew well overall and I look forward to throwing it in more normal conditions. The last disc, the freebie Force, was a solid overstable disc that has some possibility of making the bag.

During one set, I decided to measure the furthest disc, closest to the big light pole. My new Thrasher was the winner at 340′.

Here is a current bag setup… which looks fairly balanced.

Overall it was a very productive and encouraging day. I was able to throw the discs fairly far, even when focusing on tweaking my form. I look forward to continue working on my form and testing my new discs on a course.

  1. I would like to offer my official certification of these results as a totally impartial and completely unknowledgeable observer! Also, I am rooting for the Force to make the bag, it’s way cool looking!
