Yesterday’s focus was trying to finally change my mindset once and for all about my x-step. I have gone through many iterations of it, but they were all flawed. Even though I have thrown many great shots with it, they were all based on a principle of rotation. The biggest issue I had was inconsistency… the bane of a disc golfer trying to improve.
The better philosophy to the x-step is… “It’s a lateral movement”. Even though I knew this… something always got in my way. Yesterday I spent time practicing without throwing the disc and filming my footwork. After review, it seems like there was more positive change than not.
Today was my first day throwing plastic with a focus on the… “It’s a lateral movement” mentality. I played two rounds at Corbin practicing my footwork and trying out the new “roster” of discs at this course. I played the third round to focus on scoring.

Third Round

I decided to not let my past throws dictate what I know I can do now… and I threw a great shot.

On hole 12 I threw a bad shot that kicked back into 11’s fairway. After that, the round slowed down a bit and almost came to a halt on hole 18, which is a very easy hole. Overall it was a solid round and a great string of birdies!
I was very happy with today’s play. I threw a lot of great shots and fewer bad ones compared to my average round. My footwork felt solid for the most part with very little regressing to my old style. There is still a lot of solidifying to do and testing how well I can throw on longer holes. But it’s a good start… for the third… fourth… I’ve lost track of how many times I have restarted learning my x-step.
Well it doesn’t matter how many times you have “restarted”, what matters is that you are continually willing to do what it takes. = D Congrats on the Ace, regardless of what comes in front of an Ace, it’s still an Ace! That disc lodge under the rock at Hole 5 was a bit of a Where’s Waldo exercise! I don’t get the point of Hole 16’s two baskets, they are the same distance, just different directions. As usual, the shots make Corbin look like a great place to be in the middle of Winter.
